Ruling 485

5. A menarcheal woman (mubtadiʾah)

A mubtadiʾah is a woman who experiences bleeding for the first time. If a woman experiences bleeding for more than ten days and all the blood is the same, she must consider the duration of the habit of one of her close relatives to be the number of days of her ḥayḍ and the rest to be istiḥāḍah, provided that she fulfils the two conditions mentioned in Ruling 479. If this is not possible, she must choose a number of days between three and ten and consider that to be the duration of her ḥayḍ, according to the instructions explained in Ruling 481.
