Ruling 905

The sentence:

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ عَلِیًّا وَلِيُّ اللهِ    |  ashhadu anna ʿaliyyan waliyyul lāh

…is not a part of adhān and iqāmah, but it is good to say it after the sentence ‘ashhadu anna muḥammadar rasūlul lāh’ with the intention of attaining proximity to Allah.

Translation of the sentences of adhān and iqāmah

اَللهُ أَکْبَـرُ  |  allāhu akbar  | Allah is greater [than what He is described as].

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ  |   ashhadu an lā ilāha illal lāh  |   I testify that there is no god but Allah.

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُوْلُ اللهِ  |  ashhadu anna muḥammadan rasūlul lāh  |   I testify that Muḥammad is the messenger of Allah.

أَشْهَدُ أنَّ عَلِیًّا أَمِیْرُ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ وَوَلِيُّ اللهِ  |  ashhadu anna ʿaliyyan amīrul muʾminīna wa waliyyul lāh  | I testify that ʿAlī is the Commander of the Faithful and the vicegerent of Allah.

حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ  |  ḥayya ʿalaṣ ṣalāh  |  Hasten to prayers.

حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ  |  ḥayya ʿalal falāḥ  |  Hasten to prosperity.

حَيَّ عَلَىٰ خَیْرِ الْعَمَلِ  |   ḥayya ʿalā khayrilʿamal  |  Hasten to the best act.

قَدْ قَامَتِ الصَّلَاةُ  |  qad qāmatiṣ ṣalāh  |   Certainly, the prayer has been established.

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ  |  lā ilāha illal lāh  |  There is no god but Allah.
