Ruling 2639

If a person catches a locust alive in his hands or by other means, it is lawful to eat it after it dies. It is not necessary that the person who catches it be a Muslim, nor does he have to mention the name of Allah the Exalted at the time of catching it. However, if a dead locust is in the hands of a disbeliever and it is not known whether he caught it alive or not, it is unlawful to eat it even if he says, ‘I caught it alive’.
