Ruling 2627

If the person who sent the dog reaches the prey when there is enough time for him to slaughter it, in the event that some time passes while he does some things that are preliminary to slaughtering it, such as taking out his knife, and the prey dies, it is lawful to eat it. However, if he does not have anything with him to slaughter the prey with and it dies, then based on obligatory precaution, it is not lawful to eat it. Of course, if he lets the prey go in this situation so that the dog kills it, it becomes lawful to eat.
