Ruling 2277

The principal (muwakkil) – i.e. the person who appoints someone to be his agent – and the agent must both be sane (ʿāqil) and they must both have an intention (qaṣd) to enter into the agreement and do so of their own volition (ikhtiyār). Furthermore, it is a requirement that the principal must have reached the age of legal responsibility (bulūgh), except in those cases where it is valid for a child who is able to discern between right and wrong (mumayyiz) [to carry out the transaction].
