Zakat on money received as Inheritance

Q:

I have 10 million received in January 2020 as an inheritance from my parents. I have invested that money in the bank and bear my household expenses from that. Apart from that, I have a house in which I live and 2 cars. Gold 10 tola in the shape of jewellery.
Please let me know of the zakat I have to pay.

A:

Bismillah

You are not required to pay zakat. However, if, at the end of the khums year, some of the profit remains unspent on living expenses, you should pay one-fifth of it as khums. Your khums year starts on the date of receiving your 1st income. The money which others gift you is subject to Khums after a year has passed from it and you still have it at hand
