Ask an Alim

Will this be counted as smoking Marajuana?

Q:

One of my friends send the question below:

”I was out with friends, and they were smoking Marajuana. They kept asking me to and I didn’t. When they passed the cigarette around, I smoked, but did not inhale one bit, so they can get off my back. Since I did not inhale (and I also did not feel a thing,  because I didn’t, does this count as smoking Marajuana from an Islamic perspective?”

A:

Salam Alaykum

In Islamic practices, it is strongly recommended to avoid such a company that consumes narcotics and other illegal and prohibited material such as Marijuana.
Referring to the act of pretending that you were smoking, had the act the effect of smoking on you, or you had felt as same as those who consume marijuana, the act would have been counted as the same ruling for those who deliberately consume it. However, prevention from keeping such company is highly recommended. This is because keeping such company or friends has severe consequences. Therefore, such an act and keeping such a company is strictly prohibited.
