Why do shias pray zohar, Asr & Maghrib, Isha namaz together

Q:

Why do shias pray zohar, Asr & Maghrib, Isha namaz together

A:

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

Question: Did the Prophet and the Imams (PBUT) combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers? Why do the Sunnis perform the Asr prayer at Asr time? Is it not preferred for us (Shias) to act as they do?

Concise Answer: Taking note of the Shia and Sunni traditions that have been passed down to us, the Prophet (PBUH) would both combine the Dhuhr and Asr, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers, as well as pray them separately.

The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) would at times combine the prayers in order to make it easy for the people.

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) has stated: “The Prophet of God, without any particular excuse, performed the Dhuhr and Asr, as well as the Maghrib and Isha prayers with one Adhan and two Iqamah.”

Performing prayers in five times is not obligatory, because when the infallible practice something, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is wajib; it can mean that it is wajib, mustahabb or just simply permissible. To say that something they have done is wajib calls for a separate reason than just the fact that they did it.

Why do the Shi’ah combine Prayers?

We Shias also believe 5 prayers to be obligatory but out of these 5 prayers, Dhuhr can be prayed with Asr, and Maghrib can be prayed with Isha and these can be prayed at different times as well. So, there is no problem in praying together or separately.

May Allah swt accept our Salat and our deeds.
