Ask an Alim

What is the correct way of saying the last part of the kalimah “La hawla wala Quwwata Illah …”

Q:

As salaam Alaykum.

I am confused since Ayat al Kursi ends with Ali ul Azeem.

could you please tell me what is the correct way of saying the last part of the kalimah “La hawla wala Quwwata Illah …”

is it Billah il Ali il Azeem

or

Billah il Ali Ul Azeem.

Thanks for your time and reply.

A:

Wa Alaikum al-salam

Thanks for your question

The kalimah Ḥawqala “لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِیِّ الْعَظِیمِ” is with “kasra” i.e. la hawla wala quwwata illa billahil aliyyil azim

Which means There is no might nor power except with Allah the highest and greatest

The Ayat al kursi ends with “و هو العلی العظیم” not with “إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِیِّ الْعَظِیمِ” that is the reason for different harakat.
