What is the concept of wearing black colored cloths in Mohharum ALharam

Q:

Respected sir or mam I have many question to be asked but I will make my self short to save ur time and mind what is the concept of wearing black colour cloths in mohhurumharam other things is that our religion sayz to be neat and clear some people wear cloths same as they think month is sad we shud wear old black cloths is it ok to wear new black cloths in mohhrum or it is wrong does these things changes with the time today there many things like a bussinesse

A:

Waalykum salam

Thank you for your Question

Black shows mourning. Like in most religion, upon death, sorrow or grief people wear black clothes.
And this does not mean one should wear untidy or dirty clothes. Old clothes could be ok to wear but shouldn’t compromise ones personality or the mourning he is doing. New clothes are equally fine.

Today times have changed, but the norms haven’t!
People around the world, at government and even political level wear black to show mourning and sadness. Then why should we, as the mourners of Aba Abdillah al-Hussain (as), count his sacrifice sort of outdated and change it to our thinking and liking!?

We should be able to stand up for him, mourn for him, and announce it by our actions (which will include our appearance). Because as said, action speaks louder than words!

Naajiya Jaffery
