Q:

My father in law is living with us.our house upper story is given on rent to an army family.the lady of the house is a good friend of mine.My father in law has done some wrong things in the past regarding maids of the house. My mother in law passed away a year back.My friend and her husband doubted us that we are not good to him.I told her that I am fulfilling all my duties but he is angry with me and my husband as we do not allow him to keep a full time maid. Then I told her some issues of the past we faced.

Gheebah (backbiting) means to talk bad about someone behind their back and is considered as one of the greater sins and must be refrained from.
Imam Sadiq (a.s.) says, “Ghība is exposing that aspect of your brother which Allah had concealed.”One who commits gheebah must repent to Allah with sincerity and determination not to repeat this.According to Ayatullah Sistani, asking for forgiveness from the person about whom gheebah was done is not necessary.
