Ask an Alim

What can I do to make Allah happy or at-least get His mercy?

Q:

No amount of Charity, No Amount of Salat, Dikr, and Prayers are being answered! its been almost 3 and half years, i lost my job and had to move back to Pakistan, ever since i have increased all the good deeds, i ve prayed , helped needy out of the way, fed the hungry, helped needy to build their own house!

yet iam sinking by every passing day, no business is moving, nothing is happening, everything have come to a stop!!!

I recite quran daily other than regular reciting, I read, Maryam, Yasin, Qaaf, Mulk, Muzammil, Mudassir, Al Alaa and Ghashiya on daily basis along with Names of Allah!

I give charity to poor, seldom i turn away anyone, i help my relatives and stand with them in their problems, both for moral and financial support!

But today i feel like crying, i have no body to go to but Allah, i have no nobody to ask for help and mercy!!! and i have not been answered!

In due course I lost my mom, I don’t know whats wrong, now people are asking for help and i had to cut to my expense to help them out, I am praying to Allah and crying for help..but nothing!!!

please tell me whats wrong! please tell me what i can do to make Allah happy or at-least get his mercy?

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

  1. At times in our life, there is a period when it is a test. Every time we have a problem in our life, doesn’t really mean it is a punishment for us.

Allah gives us money to test and at times takes from us to check how firm is his believer but we can’t judge if the hard time we are going through is really a punishment or a test.

وَنَبْلُوكُمْ بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةً

and We will test you with good and ill by way of test (Surah Ambiya/35)

We never know maybe you are being tested in poverty but you have to stay strong and firm and finish this time

  1. Sometimes these things happen to us not because of lack of zikr but may be because of a great sin we have indulged in past, like being cruel towards parents or oppressing someone or not paying someone’s rights etc. but unfortunately sometimes we blame Allah for the problems which are created because of our own mistakes and sins. The consequences of sins are seen. Think about this and see if there had been any of where you have not fulfilled your duty properly.
Repent if there had been anything and make a true Tawbah.

Some of the essentials and conditions for Tawbah are:

  1. To remorse over the past.
  2. The resolution not to return to it ever.
  3. To return to creatures their (formerly usurped) rights so that you meet God Almighty in a state of purity in which no one has any claim against you.
  4. That you fulfill every duty that you neglected in order to satisfy your obligation in respect to it.
  1. Get Duas from your parents as they are heard.
  2. Whatsoever happens don’t leave praying five times a day, reciting Quran, Duas and Dhikr. Keep asking Allah(swt) and He will indeed help you in this test. I would say increase the Duas and recitation of Quran along with Quran translation.
  3. Remove despair and hopelessness and perform wajibat and refrain from Haram to become a better Momin. Hopelessness is a big trap of shaitan who later moves the momin away from Allah(swt) and His mercy.
  4. Recite Hadithe Kisa and pray Namaz Jafare Tayyar.
  5. Recite Surah Waqiyah after Isha prayers or anytime at night before sleep.

  6. Do not sleep after Fajr prayers till sunrise. Utilize this time by reciting Quran and Duas. You can also recite Tasbeeh of یا رزاق (Ya Razzaaqu) as many times possible but with consistency. Even upto 1000 times a day shows its great effects in increasing the Rizq. But the above points have to be taken into consideration as well.

May Allah(swt) grant you success
