Ask an Alim

Was it a punishment for me that I lost my father

Q:

Aoa
I am the youngest daughter, last year my sister got married and all of a sudden completely unexpectedly I also got hitched with a guy in the rasam of imam zaman. My father has been sick from last many years but physically he was always fine. He was a kidney patient n we were always following up so we can start dialysis whenever required. I got married on 1st january I took care of my father with all my energy in those 10 months when I was alone. Everybody used to question thay why my marriage is happening with so little gap from my sister wedding. My father dialysis started few days before my wedding as he said he actively wants to enjoy his last daughter wedding. I had to leave abroad with my husband for few months. And my father promised me on my departure that he will come at airport to pick me up as he will be fine by then because dialysis were going smooth. Everything was going smooth, people survive on dialysis for years. On 17th jan he started talking weirdly he was seeing people following him to take him, n he was saying that he didn’t want to go as his kids will be worried on 20th night he was no more with us.
I couldn’t see him, I don’t know if it was a punishment for me or because it was impossible for me to believe it and see him it was planned like this by Allah.

Salaamun alaykum
Thank you for your question.

I am very sorry for your loss sister! It must have been a very difficult time for you but we have to keep in mind that we all have to leave this world one day and that your father’s time had arrived. So you should not think of it as a punishment, rather it is a test from Allah (swt) and you should pray to Him to help you overcome these tests successfully and not fail them.
I know it is very difficult to lose a loved one but we have to learn to accept Allah’s decisions and ask Him to grant us patience and that is how we can reach our main goal in life that is getting closer to Him InshaAllah.

Kind regards,
