Ask an Alim

Taking False oath destroys Iman, should the wife take divorce or khula from her husband?

Q:

Salam,

If a person takes false oath on Quran or Allah multiple times and has not paid kaffara. Will that mans iman be destroyed ? And is it necessary to take divorce or khula from husband ? I have read that it states in Quran or Hadees that Allah gives no portion in the hereafter to that man who takes false oath, Allah will not look at him or talk to him on qiyamah and he will not purify his sins. Does this mean permanent hellfire ? Please answer !

Al-Salam Alaykum

Taking false oath has very bad effect on the Iman and he has to pay kaffara if it is valid shar’ee oath but it does not through him out of the boundries of Islam. He will still be classified as Muslim. So, it is not necessary to take divorce for he still considered as a sinner Muslim.

The verse which you are reffering to is about some other sin and that is to take oath on a false and incorrect thing like take an oath on he is telling truth while he is not.

If one does not repent from great sin he would face a great punishment. However, Allah is all forgiving and if he repents God would forgive him and we cannot judge that he will be burned in hell fire as he may repent to God even in last moment and we may even do not understand.

Best regards.
