Ask an Alim

Taharah

Q:

Salam alaikum

I have a couple of questions regarding najasah. Here are the scenarios:

If tahir water from a tap bounces off a najis floor onto me, will that make me najis ?

Also similarly, if the tahir water falls from my body instead of directly from the tap, then it bounces back off the najis floor onto me, will this make me najis ?

And can you please specify which sheikh answered my question and according to which scholar.

A:

Assalamu Alaykum

Thank you for your Question

I called the office of Ayatullah Sistani and this is the answer I got to your Query:

If mutlaq water – apart from qaleel water- comes into contact with a najis thing, the water will not become najis until the taste, smell or colour of the water changes.
Mutlaq water includes _ kur water, flowing water, rain water.

If qaleel water comes in contact with a najis thing, the water will become najis.

The water that comes from the tap falls under the category of flowing water and the water from your body falls in the category of qaleel water
