Tafsir of Surah Kahf

Q:

In surutal Qasas, (Chp 28) the story of Prophet Musa has been mentioned from the time of his birth, to him fleeing Egypt, to his return and Challenging Firaun.

In it,it is clear that Harun, his brother, is the successor after Musa.
Why is Harun not mentioned in the story of Prophet Musa and Khizr and why is he not Musa’s successor in Surah al Kahf?

Thank you.

A:

As-salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

thanks for your question

there is two answer:

  1. the story of prophet Musa and Khidhr meeting in Surah al-kahf is in way that there is no neccessity of mentioning Haroon in it, the same reason that Allah swt didn’t mention his name in the story of prophet Musa in other surahs like Baqarah, An-Naziat, Dukhan etc. because there were no need to mention him, or he wasn’t present at the events of this story (maybe he stayed behind and didn’t join prophet Musa)
  2. at the time of this story Haroon wasn’t alive hence Allah swt didn’t mention his name; according to our narrations and tafseers (33:69) one of the offensive accusations that Bani Israel had toward Nabi Musa was that he killed his brother Haroon (it means Haroon died before Musa), if the meeting between Musa and Khidhr happened after the death of Haroon there is no need in mentioning him in the story.
