Is it permissible to in Islam, to wear brief underwear and shave your body for swimming ?

Q:

I go to swimming a lot, I have a question Can men wear brief underwear (swimming costume), and shave their bodies. Because shaving your body decreases drag inside the water and aids in swimming! And the best way to do competitive swimming is to wear proper swimming costume or brief underwear and shave your body just like they do in bodybuilding competition. Is it permissible to in Islam, to wear brief underwear and shave your body?

A:

Wa-Alaykum Assalam Wa Rahmtu-Allah,

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.

In regards to removal of hair, it is found in narrations that it is recommended for men and women to remove the hair on their body from the neck down, and for the use of the ietm called “Noora” to do so at least once every 20 days for women and every 40 days for men. (See https://www.sistani.org/persian/qa/01062/, in farsi)

Wearing briefs is fine jurisprudentially.

Swimming in a mixed gender swimming pool however, is not permissible.

See the following Q+A
Question: Is it permissible for a Muslim man to go to a mixed swimming pool with the knowledge that the women there swimming suits form and would not listen to any admonishing?
Answer: Although looking without bad thoughts or lustful intentions at the women who are indecently dressed (and who would not listen to you if you wish to admonish them) is allowed, yet based on obligatory precaution, going to such places is absolutely forbidden.
