Ask an Alim

sharing islamic knowledge but not implementing

Q:

If a person has beneficial knowledge which can be acted upon, such as the 12 rakat sunnah prayers, but does not act upon them or fears they’ll become arrogant if people praise them, should they preach it? Or should they preach it so that it does not remain hidden from others, who can benefit from it?

A:

Assalamu Alaykum

Thank you for your Question.

I’m not sure if I understood your question well.
If you’re asking if a person should share his knowledge If he isn’t acting upon it!? Eg on Mustahabbat?

Imam Ja’affer al-Sadiq (s) says:

إنَّ لِكُلِّ شَيءٍ زَكاةً ، وزَكاةُ العِلمِ أن يُعَلِّمَهُ أهلَهُ .

Meaning, everything has Zakat, and the zakat of knowledge is to teach it to the one who deserves it.

Hence, you must share this invaluable knowledge with others In the hope that InshaAllah they will make use of it and benefit from It.
