Ask an Alim

What is the ruling about buying NON VEG food from outside ? Food having MSG component ( ajino moto)

Q:

Salam Alikum
I have question regarding food ( from outside like restaurants/ hotels etc….) having MSG component that is monosodium gulatamate i.e Ajino moto (which is made up of animal bone and is haram to eat.) which adds flavour to the food esp in non veg food items.

But we are residing in a Islamic country so is it necessary to ask the seller if the food contains MSG Component every time before we buy or is there no need to enquire ?
What if it contains MSG ?
I am a muqalid of Ayatullah sistani

Jazakallah

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
Wa-Alaykum Assalam Wa Rahmtu-Allah,

In regards to food and living in an Islamic Country, you do not need to enquire about the ingredients of the food being prepared… the assumption is that it is pure and halal to eat. Even if it does contain a haram ingredient, you are not obliged nor should you ask as you are living in an Islamic Country. Allah Knows Best.
