Ask an Alim

Obey Parents or Allah

Q:

AOA.

My mother demands me not to keep beard while I am convinced that I should keep beared as an Islamic culture. When I researched I came to know that obeying parents is compulsory whereas beard is not compulsory.

So according to Islam what should be my action? Duty toward my mother by fulfilling her wish or duty toward Allah (which is non obligatory).

Jazak Allah

Indeed parents hold a lofty position to an extent that Allah repeatedly mentions them close to His own in the Holy Qur’an. But it should be known that nothing is beyond HIS wish.

According to his Eminence Ayatullah Sistani, it is an obligatory precaution to keep a beard. This will mean that is obligatory for a man to keep beard. For further clarification pls refer to the following link.
