A:

Walaykum Salaam,
Bismillah ArRahman ArRaheem

1.  “Do the people think that they will be left to say, “We believe” and they will not be tried?” 29:2
2. ” And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,” 2:155
3. ” So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.” 2:152
Life was meant to be less comfortable and more challenging than we would like, but we must remember that all of this is only a test, and our aim is to always be content with the Judgement that Allahï·» will pass upon us, so we must always be thankful and be patient and Insha-Allah you will be rewarded for your patience.
Of course that does not mean we stop trying to achieve the best we can, we must push forward and try, however, that is your obligation and the rest is up to Allahï·».  Sometimes, we think we know what we want… but:
4. ” But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.” 2:216.

In conclusion, you should aim for the best and try your hardest if you do not get what you want, accept it and even consider that it may be better for you, either in the short, or in the longer term.

Insha-Allah that helps and we pray that you find what you are looking for in every aspect of your life.
