Niyyat of prayer

Q:

If I have a constant struggle of whether or not my prayer is for Allah swt or not. For example, someone who I respect a lot comes into my mind while I try to prolong my sajdah, and at first it is Qurbatan Ilallah, but at the end of the sajdah, I am left thinking about what would this person think of me if he saw me prolong my sajdah, but then I realize that my intention is supposed to be only for Allah and no one else. What should I do? Are my prayers still valid and accepted, even though I try to have the right intention?

A:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
Wa-Alaykum Assalam Wa Rahmtu-Allah,

When your intention is to do something for other than Allah SWT your worship becomes void as Allah SWT accepts no partner in action! However, what you have described is a genuine attempt to purify your intention and what happens is a deviation in your thoughts. Consider your intention to be a bird inside a cage trying to escape the cage, every time it does, catch it and put it back in the cage and continue your worship.

If you however get up to pray only to show off to that person (which is not what you are doing from the question) then that worship is void.
