Ask an Alim

Am I committing a sin by calling my brother to live in Sweden ?

Q:

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmat-Allahi wa barakaatuhu! My question is, my brother is living in Pakistan and i live in Sweden. I want him to come in Sweden but i am not sure. The reason is here is everything open and easy to get lost on the wrong way. He is married and soon he will have children when they grow up in the environment that we have here may be they will chose the wrong way. What i want to know is should i call him here or not? If i do so, shell i commit a sin?   Thanks!

Wa’laykum asalam….

The point that needs to be considered when choosing to migrate to a non-Islamic country is – can your protect yourself, and family, and children, and generations thereafter.… from the decision to moving to such a country or not?  If one is certain then one can, and there is no harm in moving, and it would even be beneficial if he can spread the religion of Islam and Ahlul Bayet.  However, if one is not certain, or if one sees that generations to come will have a weaker religion, then one must not move to such a place where his or his families religion may become weakened.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ
Believers, guard yourselves and your families against a Fire whose fuel is men and stones (Holy Qur’an 66:6)
and in another Surah of the Holy Qur’an…
And those the angels take, while still they are wronging themselves — the angels will say, ‘In what circumstances were you?’ They will say, ‘We were abased in the earth.’ The angels will say, ‘But was not God’s earth wide, so that you might have emigrated in it?’ Such men, their refuge shall be Gehenna — an evil homecoming! — except the men, women, and children who, being abased, can devise nothing and are not guided to a way; haply them God will yet pardon, for God is All-pardoning, All-forgiving.  Whoso emigrates in the way of God will find in the earth many refuges and plenty; whoso goes forth from his house an emigrant to God and His Messenger, and then death overtakes him, his wage shall have fallen on God; surely God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.
Surah AnNissa 4:97-100
