Ask an Alim

Memorising Quran but smoking and drinking

Q:

Salaam. I would like to ask because I am concerned about my friend. Does his hifz count if he smokes weed and drinks alcohol during the time he is trying to complete his hifz?

A:

Assalamu alaykum

Thank you for your Question.

well, you can say that he is still counted as someone doing his Hifz but is not acting on the the message of the same Quran.

Quran clearly says drinking alcohol is Haram (Surah al-Nisa:43)

meaning: O you who have faith! Do not approach prayer when you are intoxicated, [not] until you know what you are saying, nor [enter mosques] in the state of ritual impurity until you have washed yourselves, except while passing through…

and also, anything that intoxicates one, or makes one addict like smoking weed is counted as Haram act.

May Allah help us to follow the Qur’an accurately.
