Learning the Quran

Q:

Assaalam alaikum!
Can a man learn the Quran on his own?,
Without qari or sheikh, if he uses Tafsirs, learns arabic, learns tajweed and listens to the Quran recited by well known qari,
Is it possible, by such way, to become the scholar of Quran, be very good at it as if he learned it from sheikh?
Wasalam

Wa Alaikum al-salam

thanks for your question

It’s possible to learn Quran on your own; although the learning has different levels, reading, memorizing, understanding, translation, etc. self-learning in some of these levels is possible, you can learn to read and memorize Quran by yourself (even though its hard and not recommended generally), but in levels like tafsir requires a professional to guide you in this way, because there are lots of tafsirs and some of them are personal speculation and not based on Quran, it requires an expert to guide you in this path.
