Ask an Alim

homosexual desires. will they be fulfilled in Jannah?

Q:

I am a Muslim boy. I feel homosexual urges so much that sometime I cry because I can’t walk on road freely like other men.  Everyday I feel this urge more than one time. But I fear Allah and don’t want to act on it. If I be patient in this world and believe that in the hereafter , in Jannat will Allah permit me to fulfill my homosexual desires, is this belief of mine wrong??

A:

Salamun Alaykum

I appreciate that you have been controlling the Haraam desires and asking for clarification regarding this matter.

Homosexuality(sodomy) is Haraam in Islam. Allah(swt) has made the opposite sex, Halal for each other after getting married and that is the natural way. The natural way is the correct way of increasing the generation. Since homosexuality is haram in Islam and Allah(swt) dislikes it, we can never say that we will be blessed with this in the paradise.

One of the best ways to get away from sins is to learn about the severity and punishment of that particular sin. I would recommend you to read the book “The Greater sin” especially the 11th greater sin which is Sodomy from the following link

https://www.al-islam.org/greater-sins-volume-1-sayyid-abdul-husayn-dastghaib-shirazi

I am copying some of the content below, from the same book mentioned above “The Greater sins” to know and learn about the badness, ugliness and severity and punishment of homosexuality.

The Holy Prophet (S) says:

“A person who commits sodomy with a boy will acquire such a Janabat (impurity) that even all the water of this world cannot remove it. Allah will be wrathful at him and curse him. (That is He will take away His Mercy from him and will award Hell for him.) What a dreadful place it is! Then the Heavens shudder of it. And the person who allows another to mount him from behind to commit sodomy, then Allah puts him on the fringe of Hell (in extreme heat) and keeps him there till He completes the reckoning of all the people. Then He orders him to be put into Hell. One by one he is made to suffer all the punishments of Hell till he reaches the lowest stage. Then he never comes out from there.”

Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) was queried by Abu Basir regarding the verse:

“So when our decree came to pass, we turned them upside down and rained down upon them stones, of what has been decreed, one after another.” (Surah Hūd 11:82)

Imam (a.s.) explained:

“There is no one who leaves this world while considering sodomy Halāl, but that Allah hits him with one of the stones that had fallen on the people of Hazrat Lut (a.s.).”

It is reported in Wasa’il ul-Shia that a person who believes sodomy to be Halāl and commits it several times and does not repent; at the time of his death Allah hits him with one of the stones that had rained upon the people of Lut (a.s.). His death is brought about by the impact of this stone, but people do not see it (the stone).

As you asked regarding the wish to be fulfilled in paradise, there wouldn’t be such desires of momineen because that is not the natural way of happiness instilled. In Qur’an we find about the Hur, who will be there in the paradise.

The conditions in the paradise differ from this world. So, we cannot compare the pleasures and desires of this world to the one in paradise. There will be all sort of blessings(neymah) in the paradise and the momin will always stay happy unlike this world where along with the happiness there are struggles and hardships as well. I will mention some of the points here to understand it in a better way.

  1. Anything which a person wishes and requests, gets in the paradise. As stated in verse 31 of Surah Fussilat:

نَحْنُ أَوْلِيَاؤُكُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَا تَشْتَهِي أَنْفُسُكُمْ وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَا تَدَّعُونَ

We are your guardians in this world’s life and in the hereafter, and you shall have therein what your souls desire and you shall have therein what you ask for

  1. All the things in the Hereafter differ from this world. The Hereafter is a place of living as stated in verse 64 of Surah Ankaboot:

وَمَا هَٰذِهِ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا لَهْوٌ وَلَعِبٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ لَهِيَ الْحَيَوَانُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ

And this life of the world is nothing but a sport and a play; and as for the next abode, that most surely is the life— did they but know!

  1. The Hereafter is the place of getting reward, not a place of getting tested. So anything could be possible there but we do not know much about it except what has been mentioned in Qur’an and ahadith. It is just a like we tell a fetus in the womb of a mother about the huge world which is outside, the fetus can never understand or imagine unless born and sees himself, the same way we can’t imagine the Hereafter except what has been told to us. Our responsibility is to fulfill our duties and be careful of our actions and deeds.

We should always ask Allah swt to help us refrain and stay away from such Haram actions which not only ruins ones’ life rather also doesn’t keep

the Muslim as a proper Muslim. The more the disobedience of Allah swt is done, the further the person goes away from the mercies of the Almighty.

We must try to obey Allah swt and fulfill our Islamic responsibilities to get closer to Allah swt and gain His mercies. Without His mercies and blessings we can never attain success in this world and the Hereafter.

Read more about the Ahlul Bayt (as) and try to follow their footsteps in order to stay away from sins and keep yourself busy in good stuff so you don’t get time to think or indulge in Haram. Keep doing good things and you will get the best in this world and the Hereafter.

I hope this will help you.

Wassalam,

Syed Haider
