The Law of Attraction

Q:

THINKING ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF ATTRACTION IS SHIRK ??? WHEN CONSIDERING ALLAH IN THE PLACE OF THE UNIVERSE .BECAUSE THEY SAY WHAT YOU THINK THE UNIVERSE WILL GIVE.THEY WHATEVER YOU WANT IN YOUR LIFE ,FEEL IT LIKE YOU HAVE CONSTANTLY THE UNIVERSE WILL GIVE FOR ME .I THINK ALLAH INSTEAD OF UNIVERSE!

A:

Thank you for your question. The law of attraction is based on the idea that when a person has a goal that they keep constantly in mind the universe will adjust itself to deliver that goal. This is not incorrect in itself although there are other laws of the universe that sometimes contradict the law of attraction. It is also very important to realise that it is Allah behind all of these laws as He is the One who put them in place due to His wisdom and while there are some laws we know, there are others we do not. That is why following the revealed religion of Islam leads to felicity as Allah shows man how to follow the laws of His system to reach the ultimate goals.

The law of attraction has been misused by some to further materialistic goals alone for their own sake. Accepting a law of the universe is not shirk unless a person believes that that law operates in independence of Allah. Another place where a person may fall into shirk is to believe that Allah is a part of the universe and can be attained. Allah is not a thing that can be attained but rather He is above all imagination and understanding and there is nothing like him. The universe cannot give you Allah, but Allah can give you the universe. Remembering Allah is part of religion and the realisation and knowledge of Allah is from within.

May you be successful
