Ask an Alim

Is it true that you can

Q:

Is it true that you can’t offer the janaza of a person who hasn’t done nikah?

A:

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

It is not amongst the Islamic teachings to not be a part of the funeral prayers of a person who hasn’t done Nikah. There are many unmarried people dying every day, we can’t say that we shouldn’t perform the funeral prayer for that dead body. Also, what if the unmarried person who has died and was a good Muslim, doesn’t he deserve the funeral prayer, prayed by Momineen so he can be forgiven and Allah(swt) showers blessings on him?

The person who attends the funeral prayers, according to Ahadith he gets a lot of Thawab.

Even regarding the person who doesn’t pray at all, it is still allowed to attend his funeral prayer. https://www.islamquest.net/fa/archive/fa40971

May Allah(swt) grant you success
