is it permissible to watch and listen wrong and false beliefs

Q:

It is not permissible to sit with, or watch and listen to, those who are establishing disbeliefs or wrong and false beliefs.[An-Nisaa 4:140]. [Al An’aam 6:68]. and [Al-Furqan 25:72] And it has already come down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah [recited], they are denied [by them I sent on Islam stack exchange a question whether it is permissible to watch a history channel that gives documentaries(assuming there are no uncovered women but only acts of kufr, shirk and magic, although it is rare in our times ) that contain all kinds of kufr acts that Niccolò Machiavelli, King Arthur (5th-6th Century?) Charlemagne (742-814) Leif Ericson ( 970-1020?) William the Conqueror (1028-1087) Alexander the great, Zu Chongzhi. … Gongsun Long. … Mozi. … Wang Chong. … Li Si. … Liu Xiang that past monarchs of christianity and Buddhism did and so on…. And Medi1Saif replied that this is like reading those parts of the Quran that tell about the kufr acts of the people of Noah, Salih, Lut, Moses, Shuaib and so on…. In other words he said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. My question is: Do you agree with it? What is the difference between watching a movie that contains kufr and watching a documentary that tells about the kufr acts of our ancestors!? Lastly I have a short question: What is a bigger sin: Watching a film that contains no kufr, shirk or magic but contains women dressed in miniskirt and bathing suits OR watching a film that contains no uncovered women but contains kufr, shirk, magic like TV shows where the speaker is well covered but speaks kufr, shirk and does magic or the films of christianity and buddhism for example?

Salam Alaykum Va Rahmatullah

Videos which spread wrong ideas or make doubt in mind is haram, not videos about kufr or shirk. For example videos about a kafir talks about where and when he born or what he did during a day and is not going to deviate you from right path is not haram. However I have to warn you sometimes movies and videos have hidden agenda and we must be careful about them. By this measure there is no different about a “movie that contains kufr and watching a documentary that tells about the kufr acts of our ancestors”. If none of them going to affect how you think about your religious believe it is ok to watch them.

About your second question, we cannot measure a sin in this way. Sometimes getting effected by a wrong idea makes us completely deviated from the right path and change our life in the way that we do all the sins and don’t even care. In the other hand moral sin can take our towfiq and it leads to kufr. As quran in 30: 10 say,

Then the fate of those who committed misdeeds was that they denied the signs of Allah and they used to deride them.

It is exactly like comparing a poison that affect your brain with a poison that affect your heart. Which one is worst? Both they can kill. It is better to avoid both of them.

Best regards!

Sayid Madani.
