Is it permissible to memorise Quran from a qari?

Q:

Assalamualaikum,

Is it permissible to memorise Quran from a qari?

The prophet peace be upon him memorised the Quran from Jibreel and the sahaba learned it from the prophet peace be upon him. I myself want to memorise also in shaa Allaah for the sake of Allaah.

Do I need to find a person that has learned it from a teacher as well like a local masjid imam or can I also memorise by listening to a qari in my free time? But the qari cannot correct me if I am not careful and am prone to make mistakes.

Could you advise me please?

Thank you for your question

Yes, it is permissible rather it is very good for a student to learn from a Qari to eliminate the mistakes he would do himself in memorizing the Qur’an.

That is correct Prophet learned from Allah(swt) through Jibraeel but we do not have option like that. Prophet Muhammad (saww) said:

خَيرُكُم من تعلَّمَ القرآنَ وعلَّمَهُ

“Verily the best amongst you is the one who learns and then teaches the Qur’an”.

You can either learn from a teacher in person or use the softwares but try to memorize in the correct way so there are no mistakes in memorization.

I would recommend you to improve the tajweed by listening to Khali Al Husary or Minshawi and once the Tajweed is good enough, start memorizing.

Once you start memorizing, try not to give a long gap and revise everyday so you don’t forget the memorized Surahs.

Have Tawakkul on God and do Tawassul with the Ahlul Bayt(as).

May Allah(swt) grant you success in memorizing the Qur’an and eventually acting upon what Allah(swt) has commanded us.
