Ask an Alim

Is it permissible in Islam to receive commission?

Q:

I am a real estate broker, who helps sellers find buyers and buyers to find sellers, and get a commission (from buyer or seller money) for this work.

Suppose the buyer I found deals with usury (Riba).

Is it permissible in Islam to receive this money (commission)?

Thank you for your query.

Yes, it is permissible for the dealer to take the commission from the buyer or seller. There is no need of researching if they are involved in taking the usury(Riba) or not. Also, you don’t know the exact money he is paying is from the usury or not.

May Allah(swt) grant you success
