Ask an Alim

Is it mandatory for me to do Tawaf of baith Allah

Q:

Assalamualaykum, I have a question regarding ‘tawaf of baith Allah’.
I live in Jeddah, whenever I plan to go to masjid e haram to offer Salah, is it mandatory for me to do tawaf ? Or can I go there offer my salah and come back without doing tawaf?
Kindly suggest me with this concern. Jazakallah khayr

A:

Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

According to Ayatullah al-Udhma Sayyid Ali Sistany’s office:

When you enter Makkah you have to wear Ehram and perform Umrah. But one Umrah in one Islamic(lunar) month is sufficient. Suppose if you visit Makkah and perform Umrah in the beginning of Rajab, you can go out of Makkah and visit again as many times without performing Umrah in Rajab iteslf. But if the next Islamic(lunar) month starts you will have to perform Umrah again.

Umrah mentioned above refers to all the wajibaat such as Tawaf, prayers of Tawaf, Saye between Safa and Marwa, Taqsir, Tawaf al-Nisa and its prayers. Only Tawaf for the above answer is not sufficient. The whole procedure of Umrah has to be performed

According to Ahlus Sunnah:

Darul Ifta deoband, India

It is lawful for those who stay in Jeddah to enter Makkah without ihram when they do not enter with the intention of Hajj or Umrah. Hence in the question mentioned above no dam (slaughtering animal) shall be wajib on you due to offering Jumuah salah in Makkah and doing tawaf without wearing ihram.
