Ask an Alim

Is it allowed for a kid to touch or grab Quran?

Q:

Aslamelkm.

At time of esha salah I prefer to offer sunnah at home because I want to perform it  in front of my 8 months old daughter so that she knows what I am doing. I also put my Quran by my side because after sunnah I recite it but while performing salah my daughter crawls to Quran and tries hard to touch it and many times she succeeded . Now my concern is that is it allowed that she touches, grabs Quran without even knowing what is it.? Note : sorry to write that much a long question. Hope anyone can Ans me ASAP. I am desperate to know.

Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

It is not obligatory to stop a child  from touching or holding the Holy Qur’an as they are not Baligh, but if touching the Qur’an is counted as disrespectful, then the children should be prevented to touch or hold.
(on the other hand, if the act of holding the Quran with love and respect will further generate more love for it, then it maybe encouraged to help him/her hold and recite it together).

You have not indulged in Haraam, so do not worry about it.

The act of praying in front of children itself is recommended so that they can see their parents and get closer to Salat and the same way they can get closer to Qur’an recitation once they see you reciting.

May Allah(swt) grant you success
