Ask an Alim

Is durood authentic, proved from hadith or Quran?

Q:

‘’sallallahu alika ya muhammad’’ is this darood authentic? is it proved from hadith or quran!

A:

Assalamo Alaikum wa rahmatullah

thanks for your question

The phrase itself could be a quotation from 33:56 “Indeed Allah and His angels bless the Prophet; O you who have faith! Invoke blessings on him and invoke Peace upon him in a worthy manner.” in this ayah Allah (az) orders us to salute greeting to prophet (sawa); the most known and important type of salute is salawat (which there is lots of ahadith about its importance) but it could be in other forms.

although it is better to say Rasulalllah(رسول الله) (sawa) or Abal-qasim(اباالقاسم) (sawa) instead of Muhammad (sawa).
