Ask an Alim

if someone passes away in madina While he was there for hajj……

Q:

Assalam o alekum
My question was about if someone passes away in Medina While he was there for hajj purpose and his Namaz e janaza get performed in Masjid e Nabvi and he is buried in Janat ul baqi so all this can mean that he was very beloved by Allah even if he was known as not to be good in his Dunya and Akhirat matters.
Jazak allah.

A:

Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

We find in hadith if a person is buried in Najaf in Wadi Al-Salam, he will be saved from the punishment in the grave but on the other hand, we have hadith which says just getting buried will not result in the dead being saved from the punishment.
Therefore, we understand it is the deeds of a person that matters along with the faith and Imaan. We never know, Allah(swt) may decrease the punishment for being buried in some places. But eventually, it is the actions of the person. A person like Sa’d bin Muadh who was buried by the Prophet (saww) had to go through punishment for his own actions. For example if a person never prayed in his lifetime, we can never expect from Allah(swt) to forgive this person as this person deserves punishment for disobeying. Therefore, just getting buried will not save us from the punishment.

May Allah(swt) grant you success
