Ask an Alim

I want to know the authenticity of the Story.

Q:

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Sir, In my country we were brought up being taught that Iblis took help from a peacock to enter heaven to beguile Adam and Hawwa (AS).
Is this true ?

Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

Allamah Tabatabi has considered this issue, but he did not discuss how the devil entered heaven and his access to Adam and Eve, and said that the authentic narrations do not have a statement in this regard, and that in some news it is stated that snakes or the peacock helped the satan to enter paradise, is not valid and they consider that narration to be fabricated and they attribute this story to the Torah. (Tafsir Al-Mizan, volume1, pg 140)

In short, we know that the possibility of Satan’s communication and temptation does not require his physical presence with man, and accordingly, it is possible that he did his temptation without entering heaven, but in any case there are assumptions and different opinions which will be mentioned

1. The paradise in which Adam and Eve were, was the promised paradise that God promised to the righteous.

Some commentators believe that the paradise of Adam and Eve is the eternal paradise promised to pious people.

2. The paradise in which Adam and Eve were, it was one of the worldly gardens that God had given them.

3. Some commentators believe that the paradise in which Adam lived was a garden of the heavens, not an eternal paradise.

According to the first hypothesis and opinion, the way of the devil to the heart is by the force of lust, anger and delusion. The force of lust became a means for the devil by which he found the way to the heart.

But according to the second and third assumptions and opinions: where Adam and Eve were, that paradise was not the promised paradise where people will go.
