Ask an Alim

I lied That my father is important than my dad, is that shirk?

Q:

If a person swears by his father for fear of swearing falsely by Allah and tells a lie that his father is dearer to him than Allah, then does that person commit shirk? Although he had no intention of doing so, he made the mistake out of fear of the situation.
Please reply.

Waalykum salam

Thank you for your Question.

A person has to be extremely careful with what’s/he is saying. Lying is Haram regardless who you swear upon. And swearing altogether is not a liked act in the eyes of Allah

hence, you must sincerely ask for forgiveness and never go back to the same sin. Allah is the best of forgivers and He alone knows the best.

good luck,
