Ask an Alim

I feel unwelcomed at the mosque, if I pray at home, will Allah except my prayers.

Q:

I was not a practicing Muslim, was involved in lost of bad deeds which I’m ashamed of….not a day goes by that I don’t carry the guilt of my past sins, I’m trying my best to pray in the mosque with jamaat but I have heard and notice people talk “bad mouth” about me in the mosque, which hurts me to the point it pushes me toward depression, I cry most of the time for my past sins I love to pray with jamaat in mosque but I feel unwelcome there, if I pray at home, will Allah except my prayers. Waiting anxiously for the reply.

A:

As-salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

thanks for your question

Eventhouhg the prayer is obligatory, there is no obligaiton for praying in mosque or with jamaat, altough doing it has more thawab and rewards than praying at home, since prayer is an obligation (wajib) you can do it at home and inshaAllah it will be accepted.

don’t forget us in your prayers and duas.
