Ask an Alim

I constantly intend to break my prayer as I have found out that intending to break Salah will render the prayer invalid.

Q:

Asalam alaikum,
Recently I have been having serious difficulties in completing My salah which is causing me to go through alot of stress and worry. Whenever I start my Salah I constantly intend to break my prayer as I have found out that intending to break Salah will render the prayer invalid. sometimes I just intend to break the prayer for no reason, also I am unable to relax in my Salah as I fear myself of not pronouncing a letter properly which also sometimes causing me to break the prayer. One of my prayer took more that 2 hours just to complete 4 rakaats. I don’t get much time to do anything else as it takes me way to long to complete a salah. Eventually I will complete my Salah without intending to break it but it will take me so many goes to actually get it done. Should I just carry on with my Salah even if I intend to break it or do I need to keep doing it untill I am able to do it?
Please give me some advice on how to get rid of this problem because it makes me really stressed and depressed.

Alaikum salam,

Its good to see you are worried about performing your religious duties correctly.

Allah wants us to progress in all spheres of life and this can only be done by giving every activity its appropriate share of time and energy. In your case, you are putting more efforts then required for prayers. Pray normally as others do, regardless of what comes to your mind. Disregarding obstructive thoughts requires perseverance, so pray to Allah (swt) and do tawassul to Ahlulbayt(as)…

Inshallah, gradually your problem will be solved.
