I came across a hadith Killing of Geckos or a house lizard is it true?

Q:

Assalamu walekum brother

I came across a hadith Killing of Geckos or a house lizard is it true? If they should be killed ,yes then why ? Please provide the quotation for the same and I have some reference which encourages killing geckos??? The book of salutations and greetings (chapter) the desirability of killing geckos reference 5560 to 5566. Is it true or they just portray out of context? ?? May Allah guide us to the right path…

A:

Wa Alaykumussalam dear brother

Thank you for your question

What we find in Hadith is the word

The words وَزَغ and وَزَغَه is referred to gecko or a toad type but it is not a gecko or lizard that we know, but apparently a special type of reptile that does not jump and has a long tongue, and it rolls its tongue.

The command to kill animals only indicates permissibility and not obligation or Mustahab.

This permissibility is related to a place or situation where the animal is vermin; Also, where a specific and legitimate use of it is desired, such as killing animal to use their meat or killing desert snakes for pharmaceuticals; Otherwise, it falls under the traditions of preserving nature and animal rights, and it is not permissible to kill it without any reason.

In general, killing animals is incompatible with the reason for their creation, unless it is dangerous for a given time or place.

May Allah(swt) grant you success

Wassalam,

Syed Haider
