Ask an Alim

I am unclear about two aspects of Salman Farsi (R.A) life

Q:

Assalam o alaikum.

I know the importance of Salman Farsi R.A in Islam. I know all the ahadees in his favour. But, I am unclear about two aspects of his life:

His role in wars. Although, he was present in Khandaq and Khyber, yet any details of his hand-to-hand combats or his bravery are never mentioned. for example, he did not proceed to fight Amr bin Abd Wud when Prophet Saww asked for a man to kill him.

Secondly, very little is known about his family. Who was his wife? Did he have any children? What was their history?

A:

Al-Salam Alaykum
Thank you for your question.

There are a few details about his fights in wars but you must know he was a very old man and mostly he could help with strategies and the like. As for his wife and children, his wife was a woman called Boqire (Boqira), and it is narrated in history that he had 3 or 4 children; Mohammad, Abdullah, (these two maybe one) and two girls.

we should know that it is not just wars or acts like this make an important role for a figure in history, but the role in thinking and preventing deviation and thought of protecting and guiding the society is much important; As for Salman standing against Saqifa and protecting Islam from deviation in such a important event on its own.

Hope this was useful,
