Ask an Alim

I am not sure if I made intention (niyat) of tawaf and other process of Hajj when I wore ahram at Madinah.

Q:

Sir, I am from Pakistan.
I performed Hajj tamattu. I wore Ehram and made intention of umrah from Madinah, but at Makkah during tawaf, I am not sure if I made intention (niyat) of tawaf and other process of Hajj which I have completed accordingly .Can you please tell me my umrah is correct and valid or what should I do if it was incorrect.

A:

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

If you had intended in the beginning to perform Umrah and had gone to perform it, then it is valid. As you are doubting now after the performance, it is counted correct.

As mentioned in the below ruling about Niyyah(intention) which is particularly for Namaz, but mainly in all Ibadaat the intention is not to be pronounced. If you know what you are doing and you are doing it for the sake of Allah it is sufficient.

Ruling 929. One must perform prayers with the intention of qurbah – i.e. in humility and obedience to the Lord of the worlds – and it is not necessary for him to make the intention pass through his heart, or, for example, for him to say ‘I am performing four rakʿahs of the Zuhr prayer qurbatan ilal lāh [to attain proximity to Allah]’.
