Ask an Alim

I am in doubt if I committed a sin after mut’a nikha.

Q:

I had mut’a with a christian woman during Ramadan. She is ‘famous’ for fornication. From my understanding it’s makrooh to have mutah with this woman according to majority of the scholars. I wasn’t fasting because of the traveling to her place. She is Spanish, so I translated the temporary marriage contract and let her utter the contract in her language. Did I commit a sin? And if I did in any way, is this sin on my name if I (still) don’t know that I committed a sin?

A:

Salam Alaykum

According to Ayatollah Sistani if none of you could perform the Marriage contract in Arabic it is correct. So, No! you did not sin. In future to avoid such confusion try to perform it in Arabic or tell someone who could do it for you.

FYI:

Question: Is it permissible to be party to temporary marriage with a woman who is “known for adultery”, if no other woman is available and the person is in desperate need of marriage?

Answer: Based on obligatory precaution, one should refrain from marrying such a woman except after her repentance..
