Ask an Alim

I am forced to be an Alim.

Q:

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Alhamdullilah, I am close to the completion of the memorization of the Quran (Hifz) and I am hopefully going to be starting my A-Levels, My father however -who is an Alim- is forcing me to enroll in an Alim Course, I really want to pursue a career in the field of programming, Will the Alim Course hinder the progress of my studies? Can a person enrol in an Alim course and possibly also earn a degree? Is the Alim Course intensive?. I don’t want to finish my Alim Course unemployed and with my only career path as a Hifz teacher, I require urgent advice, jazakallah khairan

A:

Wa Alaikum al-salam

thanks for your question

Congratulations for memorizing Quran which is a great gift and Tawfiq, inshaAllah we’re able to act according to instructions of this divine book as well.

Studying seminary courses is not against having a degree (specially these days with different types of remote study plans for Alim courses or for programming either)

Although It depends on the level of that Alim course and your scholarly background information, but its manageable to learn both but it requires flexibility and precision.

Inshallah, the best happens to you and your career.
