Ask an Alim

How to forget the person I love?

Q:

Assalamu alaikum,
I am a Muslim boy having serious trouble in forgetting the girl I love. I had been in a relationship with a girl whom I used to love very dearly. Recently, I came to know that she had made out with his ex-boyfriend about which she didn’t tell me earlier even after asking. When the truth came out, she told me that she didn’t want to lose me for which she hid the incident. I got really hurt and told her not to communicate with me. She tried her best to be with me but every time the thought of her making out with her ex comes to my mind I can’t tolerate the pain. Now, I have no contact with her but the truth is I still love her and I know that she also loves me. But, I can’t accept the incident. What should I do now? Should I forgive her? Even if I forgive her, I can never forget that she lied to me and did such a heinous act. Not contacting with her is killing me from inside. I can’t think of a moment without her. Please help me. What should I do at the moment?

Thank you for your Question

I know it must be hard on you to find out. However, both man and woman, who are to get married, aren’t obliged to open up their past to one another. The fact that they are together now is what matters and it also shows that they have moved over thier past and have taken a step further into their nee present.

In my humble opinion, we hold no space and status to hold anyone accountable of their sins. We all make mistakes and ask for forgiveness from Allah (az). She must have too. And if she is already forgiven by Allah (az) then you are just punishing an innocent person for something you aren’t related to directly.

I hope you can get over this and embrace the choice of your life in the right way.
Your relation with her right now is haram because you’re not Mahram to one another. How can one accuse the other while s/he is in the position

May Allah guide us all.
If you really want this relation to have a good turn, you must become Mahram with one another. Let not the past bother you
Allah is all forgiving. Let’s be like HIM
