Homosexuality rulings

Q:

I’m gay and I’ve had rules that being gay isn’t haram but the acts of it are. Does that mean that there can be no intimacy between gay couples? And is masturbation allowed to get rid of homosexual urges?

A:

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

“And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts). Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, – for them, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.” (Surah Mominoon/5-7)

As the intimacy between same sex leads to Haram it is indeed Haram. And as two boys get closer and both have that aspect of Haram intention, that will definitely lead them to Haram.

Masturbation is always Haram and one is not allowed to masturbate even if he wants to get rid of some other Haram action. Haram is always Haram and you can’t indulge in haram to save from the other Haram.

I would recommend you to read about Sodomy from the book “Greater sins” which has been mentioned in detail on: www.al-islam.org/greater-sins-volume-1-sayyid-abdul-husayn-dastghaib-shirazi/eleventh-greater-sin-sodomy

The eleventh sin that is classified as a Greater sin is sodomy or homosexuality. This is verified from the sayings of Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (‘a) and Imam al-Ridha’ (‘a). In fact it is a sin greater than adultery. Its retribution and punishment are more severe than for adultery…
