Ask an Alim

Have I done shirk, unintentionally. Will I be forgiven?

Q:

Assalamu alaikum,

I was going through YouTube comments and a file commented that if you want to get your ex back, email this person he will help with love spell. I didn’t do love spell as it was considered magic I thought they just put the names with flowers for fun etc so I contacted this person on email and I gave him my name and my ex name, age and county at the end I realized I was doing wrong but the email was already sent .I asked this person not to spell or do anything, he didn’t reply however it seemed like fake email because he was fooling me around saying my ex was spelled from some another girl to love her instead of me etc did I commit shirk? I was so regretful about this email and I asked for Allah’s forgiveness but I am scared if it was shirk and if it won’t be forgiven?

Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

I appreciate that you are being careful of your actions. These things do not lead to reality but rather keep the person in various ambiguities. You have repented and haven’t done shirk. If you rely on other and think that particular thing to be independent like Allah, then that it is a sin. As you have regretted and repented you do not have to worry about it. For future, don’t give importance to such things as these are a mere bluff.

If you fall in any sort of sin in any phase of your life, remember there is always a door of repentance opened for us. Allah(swt) is so Merciful that he forgives his servant when the servant truly repents and ask for forgiveness.

Some of the essentials and conditions for Tawbah are:

  1. To remorse over the past.
  2. The resolution not to return to it ever.
  3. To return to creatures their (formerly usurped) rights so that you meet God Almighty in a state of purity in which no one has any claim against you.
  4. That you fulfill every duty that you neglected in order to satisfy your obligation in respect to it.

May Allah(swt) grant you success

Wassalam,
