Halal Joke

Q:

AOA. I saw a joke on FB and shared it and a couple of my friends were really offended by it. I want to know if this joke is in some way un-Islamic. The joke went something like this: Man to Maulana: My wife left me in a huff and went to live with her parents for a month. What should I do? Maulana Replied: Fabi Ayyi Aalaa e Rabbi kumma tuqaziban: “And which of your Lord’s favors will you deny?” Please let me know if this is some how disrespectful to Islam or Quran.

A:

In my personal opinion, it is not something which we can consider it  to be disrespectful to Islam or Qur’an. However, it is disrespectful to wife, if its taken in its true meaning.

Qur’an says:

And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves spouses that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.(30:21)

Husband and wife are created for tranquility, affection and mercy to each other and thus is in contrast to what has been quoted in that humor.

To sum up, it is not disrespectful to Islam or Qur’an. The most we can say is that the humor was not in its place as one can easily slam maulana by quoting the above mentioned verse.
