Hadith Authentication

Q:

Salam, Could you please help me I’m trying to verify this Hadith – have read that it is in Al Kafi vol2 page 6 however I don’t have the book. Can you clarify if it is indeed authentic and which book I can sight it in, as I would like to know the Arabic Hadith (I assume it would say “blessed” instead of lucky” “Lucky is the woman whose first child is a daughter – prophet Muhammad pbuh&hf”

A:

Alaykum Salaam

This hadith is not narrated in Shia traditions. It appears in early Sunni literature and later Sunni hadith books such as: Kanz al Ummal Vol 16 Pg 483 Hadith 45567. The Arabic text is as follows:
من بركة المرأة تبكيرها بالأنثى

NOTE: Great sunni scholars such as Sakhavi and Albani have declared this hadith as a non reliable hadith.

We don’t find any problem with the content of the hadith for there are numerous hadith which clearly depict the status of a girl child both in Sunni and Shia Hadith. Such as:

Whenever Prophet (pbuh) was informed about the birth of a girl child, he used to say: A fragrant flower has blossomed, her alimony is on Allah (swt) (al-Ja’fariyat Pg 189)
