Fathers permission necessary for son

Q:

Assalamualaikum. I have a question about marriage. If any man wants to marry one woman as he is self established and also girl and girl’s family is agreed on this marriage. Unfortunately man’s all family members are agreed but father is not convinced in this marriage. If they want to marry each other except father of man, Is this marriage allowed in Islam? Both man and woman are adult.

A:

Waalykum salam

Thank you for your question

According to Islamic law, a girl who is a virgin, must obtain her father or paternal grandfathers permission for marriage.

But it is not the same case for man. A man can marry who he wishes and finds appropriate. He does not need to obtain his fathers permission.

However, ethically it will be appreciated if you tried to speak to your father And make him happy with the knot. Alternatively, you could ask an influential figure to intervene and speak to your father.

InshaAllah all Goes well,
Kind regards
